Why did Teigmouth Lido Close?

Teignmouth Lido has always been a popular attraction but closed in 2021 to carry out works to reduce its carbon footprint, including the installation of a solar pergola.

According to Devon Live, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Member for Leisure Services, Cllr John Nutley, said: “We have spent upwards of £800k of government funding on this major project to help reduce the Lido’s carbon footprint, cut running costs and make it financially and environmentally sustainable.”

Why did Teignmouth Lido fail to re-open in 2022?

Despite the best endeavours of Teignbridge District Council, the project suffered delays due to long lead times and problems getting hold of materials and instability issues with the foundations of the solar pergola, which unfortunately extended the project timescale.

This meant that the Lido wasn’t ready to re-open until well into the summer holiday season. Rather than reopen for a short period the Council took the decision to remain closed until the Summer of 2023.

How near is the Teignmouth Lido to The Observatory?

The Teignmouth Lido is a 25m swimming pool set in a stunning location overlooking the sea. It is within easy walking distance of The Observatory, along the sea front. Walking towards Dawlish, it takes approximately 15 minutes of non strenuous walking to get there!
